About me

I am a qualified Counsellor for Children and Young People, and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have a Diploma HE Counselling (Child and Young Person), and offer counselling to children and young people to the age of 25 years. I offer a Person-Centred approach to Counselling and provide an autonomous environment for children and young people in which they can feel safe to explore, find their voice and effective communicative skills to help with the stresses of childhood and adolescence, so often experienced by many.  As children and adolescents often find it difficult to express themselves emotionally using verbal communication, I also offer a creative aspect to my therapy, in the hope that feelings, emotions and experience can be explored more deeply through different media such as art, music and play.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I value each client individually and will work with whatever they bring, in a way in which they feel comfortable and supported to explore. My passion is to support the younger generation in enabling them to cope with the difficulties of their experience, not by telling them what to do or trying to ‘fix’ their situation, but by listening non-judgementally, and walking alongside them as they explore and find the answers they are looking for themselves.

I have over 20 years of experience working with children, primarily of pre-school age and later with teenagers and adolescents. I have worked closely with children, their families and carers, to meet the needs of the individual child and support them to reach positive outcomes. Building a strong and trusting relationship with the child and their primary carers is essential to reaching such goals and this experience resonates throughout my approach to counselling.

If you decide you would like to meet me, we can organise an initial assessment session, this will give you a feel for how I work, what I can offer and if you feel it would be useful for you. It is important that you feel you have found the right Counsellor for you or your child for the counselling process to be effective. For clients under 18, the assessment will take place with the child and their parents and/or carers.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to working within their framework to ensure ethical practice.

I currently run my private practice 'Ivy Tree Counselling' from my home in Haverhill, Suffolk (CB9), where I offer Face-to-Face sessions in my bespoke garden counselling room. Online counselling is available for clients aged 13 years and over. I also offer Walk & Talk sessions for clients wishing to connect with nature and the freedom and space of the outdoors. Walk & Talk sessions are offered for clients aged 18 years and above. I am based in Haverhill, which is in West Suffolk (CB9), and borders the counties of Essex and Cambridgeshire.

I am available from Tuesday through to Friday each week and hold sessions throughout the day.

Enquiries can be made by Email to ivytreecounselling@outlook.com or by calling me on 07881 888842. Please leave a message and I will respond as soon as possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Higher Education Counselling (Children and Young People) and am a certified Online and Telephone Counsellor.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

I have 20 years of experience working with children. The majority of this time was spent working in school with pre-school and primary aged children, working closely with their families, parents and carers to support them with development of social and emotional skills. More recently I have counselled children, teenagers and adolescents in my role as school counsellor in Newmarket, Suffolk, and offered counselling privately at The Saffron Walden Therapy Room, Saffron Walden, Essex (CB11). I now practice privately from my home in Haverhill, Suffolk (CB9).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
