The Saffron Walden Therapy Room is pleased to introduce the following guest counsellors who practice at Fairycroft House on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Shelley Thurgood BA.(Hons), MBACP
Hello my name is Shelley.
I work in Saffron Walden at Fairycroft House on Tuesdays and Thursdays offering counselling to adults and young people aged 16+
How I work
There are times in life when you may experience feeling overwhelmed, lost and alone due to life difficulties and personal life events. As individuals, we often strive to survive and seek belonging and fulfilment. I understand it can often feel daunting to face this journey alone. Therefore, during these times, I offer a safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore any life challenges you may be experiencing.
My main foundation when working as a counsellor is from a humanistic perspective by working relationally, which enables me to connect uniquely with each individual within the therapeutic relationship. However, I also draw upon different theoretical concepts relating to our past and present, which help facilitate a deeper understanding of ourselves. Exploring our connection to life and understanding our thought processing can help create personal insight, enabling a pathway towards change and personal growth.

Josephine Symons MBACP (Accred).
Hi, my name is Josephine and I'm an accredited psychodynamic counsellor, I work with adults face-to-face and remotely (telephone or video) for both short term and open-ended work.
I have extensive experience providing counselling for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, stress, workplace challenges, and bereavement. Additionally, I specialise in supporting individuals struggling with addiction and trauma, with particular expertise in addressing the effects of domestic abuse and sexual trauma.
I believe that a good therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of counselling and with this we can work together in an accepting environment that fosters trust and healing. Although psychodynamic principles underpin my practice, which considers how past experiences can shape our present thoughts, behaviours, and relationships, I work in a client-led, non-directive way, meaning I do not offer solutions or advice. Instead, I aim to create an open, non-judgemental space where the client can reflect, gain insight and find their own path forward.
I work in Saffron Walden at Fairycroft House on Fridays, offering counselling to adults aged 18+
